 Miss San Antonio 2008

Priscilla Garcia, a San Antonio native, has just been crowned Miss San Antonio 2008! She will represent San Antonio as she competes for the title of Miss Texas 2008 next July in Fort Worth.

Priscilla attended Incarnate Word High School Preparatory here in San Antonio and was nominated for “Who’s Who of American High School Students. She was also a member of all-state choir and madrigals for three years. As an Incarnate Word madrigal, Priscilla had the honor of not only meeting President George Bush in Washington D.C. but performing for him as well. She was awarded scholarships to Our Lady of the Lake University, The University of the Incarnate Word, The University of Texas at San Antonio, and The American Music and Dramatic Academy in Hollywood, California.

Currently, Priscilla is a junior at the University of Texas at San Antonio where she is majoring in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations. She is a dean's list honor roll student and a proud member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. During the spring 2007 semester she was awarded the title of UTSA Idol, which is a singing competition for UTSA students based on American Idol. She is currently touring the states with the Positive Force Tour, a nationwide tour promoting drug and alcohol prevention, higher education, and making healthy choices. Priscilla has been a part of this tour for five years as a professional back-up singer and dancer for Patsy Torres, an International recording artist.

As a vocalist, she has been performing for thirteen years.  Her journey began at the age of eight when she entered the San Antonio Parks and Recreation “Our Part of Town” Talent competition.  At the age of nine, she won the overall first place title as a vocalist. The following year she was crowned San Antonio Jr. Miss Recreation Queen 1997. Throughout the following years, she performed at the Capitol in Austin for Governor Rick Perry, sang in San Antonio for Prince Albert of Monaco, and was handpicked by Director Gregory Nava to dance right beside Jennifer Lopez in the movie “Selena.”

At the age of thirteen, she joined a performance group called “Hype,” an alcohol and drug prevention group, which was sponsored by the San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. With Hype, she had the opportunity to perform for elementary and middle school students while promoting drug and alcohol prevention through music. The group also performed during Spurs half time shows.

She continued pursuing her singing talents and landed shows sharing the main stage with LL Cool J and Cool and the Gang. Most recently she was the opening act for International recording artist, Frankie J, for the “Dr. Pepper Unmistakable Concert” in San Antonio. Priscilla was a semi-finalist for MTV’s “Making the Band,” at the Dallas auditions. In 2005 she was a Miss Fiesta Finalist and scholarship recipient. In 2006 Priscilla was a member of the San Antonio Ravens and San Antonio Roses, two prestigious, semi-professional cheerleading and dance squads.

On April 29th, 2007, Priscilla received her greatest title yet, Miss San Antonio 2008, and as such is an official member of Fiesta Royalty. As a part of the Miss Texas program she serves as a mentor to young girls ages 5-12 with both the Alamo Princess and Lone Star Princess Programs. Her platform for her year of service is “Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention in Young Adults.” As Miss San Antonio, Priscilla hopes to better serve the community by speaking on her platform, sharing her love and passion for music with all of San Antonio, and promoting the Miss Texas program and the Miss America Organization to the best of her ability.
